Of Hypocrites and Fallen Patriarchs
The fact that the Bible, all throughout, reports that the patriarchs of prominence sinned in every way imaginable does not undermine the veracity of Scripture. In fact, it enhances it.
What other sacred writing plainly exposes the sins of its most venerated religious leaders? Aside from the sinless Son of God, every man is outed as the lairs, cheaters, adulterers, murders, abusers, and charlatans that we are.
I have no choice to include myself among this motley crew. While I haven’t committed all the sins of these patriarchs, I have secretly and blatantly engaged in my fair share. This revelation does not surprise anyone who knows me well, and for that I am deeply ashamed.
However, the good news for all sinful men, past and present, is that God does not leave us in our estate of sin and misery. The only way out is brutal honesty before God and those we have hurt by our sin.
The story of the gospel is God taking us hypocrites and turning us into repentant and forgiven men of God through Jesus Christ, who makes out utmost desire to serve Him with all our hearts.
