The Cotton Candy Church
The American Church is failing because of a mistaken belief in the separation of State and God's Law. According to the Bible, there is only one Law, which is God's Law. Any other law founded upon anything other than the Law of God comes from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Nowhere and at no time is man given the task to make up laws apart from God's Law. To do so is to perpetuate the original sin by believing the lie of the Serpent that in eating of the forbidden fruit, we will be gods, deciding for ourselves what is good and evil.
The only valid role of Government in the Bible is to punish evildoers who violate God's Law (Romans 13:1-7). Thus, while the Constitution is supposed to limit the Federal Government, the Bible goes even further. According to the Bible, Government at all levels is severely limited to the task of punishing evildoers and nothing more. Of course, evil being defined by God's Law, not man's law untethered from the Bible.
Any law system not based on God's Law has a foreign god at its demonic center. This is where the Church comes in. One of Her primary roles is to call all to repentance and obedience to God through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on our behalf.
But the role of the Church does not end there. The Church is to proclaim the rule of Christ and His kingdom in all areas of life. In other words, the kingdom of God and its corresponding Law rules over every sphere of human existence. Any area of life not conquered by the kingdom of God stands in direct opposition to God and His ultimate rule.
We see in our day the failure of the Church of God to confront a wicked and corrupt Government that has set itself above God's rule. Instead, the Church is so busy using worldly marketing techniques that are contrary to the Word of God. As a result, She has lost Her way and has sold Her birthright for a bowl of pottage.
All American Christians, including myself and my fellow pastors, are responsible for the decline and demise of our nation. We have failed to call all to repentance and have bought the lie that the role of the Church is to be a self-help entertainment center offering cotton candy to attract a sugar-addicted crowd rather than the Bread of Life to a starving and dying world.
